Aiming to build an important health facility to provide modern healthcare services for the Turkish people, the Anadolu Health Village Project was approved in 1991 and the founding process began to create the Anadolu Foundation.

Partnering with Johns Hopkins Medicine International includes technology and know-how transfer, training, and research, the key points to attain the center’s objectives.

The 209-bed hospital housing the infrastructure rendering multidisciplinary treatment has a 59-bed intensive care facility to include cardiovascular surgery, coronary, pediatric, newborns, and neurological intensive care units.

The hospital was built according to international standards with modern medical, educational, organisational, and technological environments and “smart building” technology applied in units housing high technology. Taking into consideration that the geographical area lies on an active seismic belt, a construction approach was adopted that complies with earthquake standards in developed countries. Anadolu Health Center is the first Turkish hospital meeting the standards required by the U.S.-based Joint Commission (formerly Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organisations (JCAHO)) as well as meeting the standards of the U.S. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the American Disability Association (ADA).



Anadolu Health Center creates solutions expected by the Joint Commission International (JCI), a not-for-profit organization that sets international standards for quality healthcare in all aspects of services offered, planned, and designed and in their material use and in operations. In the healthcare sector, a certificate received from JCI is tantamount to ISO certificates in other industries. As a recipient, Anadolu Health Center is a registered healthcare organization according to JCI standards.

Advisory services were provided by Johns Hopkins Medicine International in planning the technology at Anadolu Health Center, now working with one of the leading planning companies of America. Standing out with state-of-the-art technology are the hospital’s radiation, oncology, radiology, and nuclear medicine departments, and its eight operating rooms, blood banks, angio units, and intensive care units. To provide services at international standards, the hospital’s technology includes two linear accelerators having positron emission tomography (PET) and IMRT systems, which have limited availability in Turkey; TIM-MR and Stratton CT providing advanced imaging opportunities; and CyberKnife®, a first in Turkey.

Among the technological investments to increase operational productivity are the PACS, which saves radiological imaging results in cyberspace; the PYXIS, which ensures that the unitary medical dosage system is easily applied; the pneumatic tube system, which allows transferring products between units; and the information system (HIS), which provides easier procedures in following up information and keeping patient archives in cyberspace by using the ICD-10 and DRG coding systems for the first time in Turkey.

Thanks to the information systems – part of the infrastructure of Anadolu Health Center – communicating electronically with doctors, insurance companies, and patients and their relatives is now possible. Controlled access to patient records through almost all sources is also possible, thanks to the Web-based information processing system.

The telemedicine infrastructure developed at Anadolu Health Center enables the hospital to receive consultations from doctors at Johns Hopkins on required issues and ensures that they participate in operations and training.



All kinds of branches of medical expertise from pediatrics to skin disease, from genetics to women’s diseases and births are available at Anadolu Health Center. Heart diseases and cancer, neurology and gynaecology are especially emphasized. The Oncological Sciences Department co-located at Anadolu Health Center aim at becoming a “hospital within a hospital” and a reference center.

Situated at the heart of Turkey’s busiest highway system and industrial and residential area, where traffic accidents peak, near the International Kurtköy Airport off the Bayramoğlu exit on Istanbul’s Asian side, the Anadolu Health Center emergency room services were constructed, taking into consideration the frequency of emergencies.

About the cooperation between Johns Hopkins Medicine International and Anadolu Health Center
Anadolu Health Center signed a strategic cooperation agreement with John Hopkins Medicine International in 2002.

Paving the way for transferring information between the doctors of Anadolu Health Center and their colleagues at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland, this agreement ensures that they share their medical know-how and continue their medical training through video conferencing.

ASM doctors, nurses, medical technicians, and management are trained by Johns Hopkins in patient safety, hospital management, and infection control, as well as in their own specialty areas.

MEMORIAL HEALTH GROUP

Memorial Hospital is the first Healthcare Services project of Memorial Health Investments Corporation that was founded in 1995.

The project of Memorial Hospital had started in 1996; this project served as an example in hospital industry in Turkey. Memorial Hospital project was created with a local team although we collaborated with ECRI (A non profit health services research agency that is recognized as one of the world's leading independent organizations committed to advancing the quality of healthcare.) that helped us choosing state of the art medical devices.

The construction of the building was completed at the end of 1999 and the installation of devices was completed in January 2000. The first patient was received in February 2000.

Within a short period of time Memorial Hospital filled up its bed capacity. Memorial Hospital's first growth project was realized in 2001 by adding 2 Outpatient Clinics of 450 square meter each. In summer 2002, 50 more beds and a modern maternity clinic with an operating room were added. In 2005, our room number reached 136 and our total number of beds reached 184.

In order to serve on the Anatolian side of Istanbul as well as the European side; Memorial Suadiye Outpatient Clinic opened its doors in 2003.

Memorial Hospital is the first JCI (Joint Commission International) accredited health center in Turkey, and 21st in the world.

JCIA made the first move to respond the increased demand on standard based evaluation of the health care. JCIA aims to impose objective standard series and processes to health care organizations of international societies, create continuous and permanent improvement programs and determine standards considering local needs. The philosophy of the standards is based on quality management and continuous improvement principles. Standards are set for all activities and there are basic standards that the institution needs to meet. There are high standards for patient safety and patient care. Thyroid, all inclusive bone scintigraphies, and thallium tests are most often carried out successfully in addition to examining many other diseases.

Thanks to echocardiography, the weakness of cardiac muscles, aorta diseases, cardiac dilation, cardiac valve diseases are diagnosed at an early stage and monitored, accordingly.
With Stress Echo, cardiovascular diseases are indirectly diagnosed and whether a real angio is required is determined.

Thanks to the Holter monitor, cardiac rhythm and blood pressure measurements are assessed for 24 hours and masked (latent) hypertension and rhythm disorders (arhythmia) are found.

With digital radiography systems, used in the most advanced diagnosis centers in the West, all x-ray examinations, including mammograms, are digitally obtained at Medica.
